Following the 1917 exhibition, the stage curtain for the "Parade" ballet, chef-d'oeuvre by Pablo Picasso and an exceptional loan from Centre Pompidou, Musée national d'art moderne, is now the centre piece of an exhibition focused on the ballet and its history, which takes the shape of a documentary. An outstanding work in its own right, the ballet was created in 1917 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. It was devised by Jean Cocteau, Erik Satie, Pablo Picasso and Léonide Massine under the direction of Serge de Diaghilev.
Visitors will discover the ballet's beginnings from the encounters between the various protagonists to their close collaboration and contributions to the creation of this great work of art. The reaction to the ballet's premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet and its legacy over the 20th and 21st centuries as well as the ballet's adaptations over the years, the curtain's successive ownerships and its display in various exhibitions will also be presented.
This fascinating story will be told through a selection of reproductions of drawings, photographs, correspondence, press clippings and films.
